About 7 Days In Coney Island

Set in Coney Island's "Little Pakistan," 7 Days In Coney Island follows a close-knit immigrant community as old habits collide with the freedoms and anxieties of life in New York. Sana (Sidra Batool) is trying to make peace with her past, while newcomer Ghazala (Aizzah Fatima) attracts the hopeful attention of Salek (M. Hussain Asif), a Multani waiter still finding his footing far from home. Salman (Ahmad Ali Razvi) considers himself a modern husband, yet conversations about marriage, therapy and emotional wellbeing expose the limits of that confidence. Around them, teenager Maddie (Sabeen Sadiq) pushes back against attitudes her elders brought from another time. Across three brisk episodes, their intersecting stories explore homesickness, loneliness, family strain, prejudice and the awkward work of starting again. Writer Shah Yasir and director Mehreen Jabbar give everyday spaces, from corner shops to restaurant kitchens, the warmth of a lived-in neighbourhood, making this compact ensemble drama feel both distinctly Pakistani and unmistakably New York.

Editor’s Take

Mehreen Jabbar turns a modest New York production into something wonderfully lived-in: steaming food, cramped shops and winter streets become part of the storytelling. We especially loved M. Hussain Asif's tender, funny Salek, while the ensemble makes questions of therapy, prejudice and belonging feel conversational rather than preachy. Our one gripe? The three-episode sprint gives some characters more sketch than arc, and the resolution can feel a little too tidy. Still, this is compact Pakistani television with uncommon texture and heart.
