About Dastak (Movie)

A divorced mother (Sohai Ali Abro) has already fought to rebuild a secure life for her young son, but society keeps treating independence as something she must defend. When a compassionate man (Ali Raza) offers the possibility of love again, their relationship faces a harder test than romance: can a new family make room for her child without asking her to shrink as a mother? Custody pressure, old resentments and the prejudices surrounding remarriage turn each step forward into another demand that she prove her worth.

Written by Sarwat Nazir and directed by Marina Khan, Dastak follows a woman determined to claim companionship on her own terms. Its sharpest idea is that remarriage is not a magical rescue, but an everyday negotiation of trust, dignity and parental responsibility. Sohai Ali Abro gives the conflict its emotional center, while Ali Raza brings warmth to a partnership built on communication. It is a socially alert family drama with a resilient heroine worth rooting for.

Editor’s Take

Dastak hits hardest when its divorced mother is allowed dignity, desire and the right to choose a future for herself and her son. We admire how its custody battle grows from recognisable social prejudice instead of empty sensationalism, giving the message some lived-in bite. Our one gripe? The later stretch repeats conflicts long after their emotional point has landed, exactly where its early pace deserved more discipline. Even with that drag, its humane knock is hard to ignore.
