About Ghutan

Set inside a traditional middle-class household, Ghutan follows Sohani (Madiha Zaidi), a young woman raised to imagine a freer future than the one her mother was allowed. Her father, Ahmed (Shahzad Raza), is kind-hearted but deeply attached to the family's old customs. Her mother has spent years keeping her husband and in-laws happy, yet she draws a line when those same expectations begin to close around her daughter. She wants Sohani to achieve not only her own ambitions, but also the dreams that an earlier generation was taught to surrender.

With Zaryab (Asad Zaman) and Junaid (Junaid Akhtar) occupying the other key corners of Sohani's world, Muhammad Faiz's serial sets personal choice against duty, respectability, and inherited compromise. Directed by Syed Imran Ali, it turns an ordinary family home into a pressure chamber. The hook is deeply human: a mother who once accommodated tradition now refuses to let her daughter inherit the same confined life.

Zaryab gives Ghutan its most intriguing dramatic edge. Asad Zaman described the character as unusually complex and nuanced, and that fits a story built around the pressure between personal freedom and inherited duty. Our one gripe is the scale: 106 episodes make this a daunting commitment, however strong the premise. Still, the premiere and finale view spikes suggest viewers found reasons to return.
