About Hook (Movie)
Hook turns a love triangle into a battle over power and choice. Haya (Kinza Hashmi), a middle-class young woman living with her elder sister after losing her parents, is devoted to Zayan (Mirza Zain Baig). Their plans are threatened by Shaheer Ilahi (Shahroz Sabzwari), the arrogant younger brother of an influential man, whose one-sided obsession with Haya refuses to accept her answer. When Shaheer's interference draws his formidable elder brother Jaffer Ilahi (Faysal Quraishi) into the conflict, romance collides with family pride, social pressure and the reach of political influence. Written by Shagufta Bhatti and Shahid Dogar, Hook builds its drama around whether love can survive when wealth and status turn private desire into public coercion. Its world of roses and thorns promises romantic yearning, bruised egos and escalating revenge, with Haya caught between the future she has chosen and men determined to choose it for her.
Editor’s Take
Faysal Quraishi is Hook's sharpest weapon, giving Jaffer Ilahi a commanding presence and the expressive range that viewers singled out even as they questioned the character's choices. We could do without the story's reliance on coercive romance, and the finale's abrupt turns left many viewers feeling shortchanged and unsettled. Yet Quraishi keeps pulling focus whenever the revenge plot tightens. Hook may be thornier than its romance promises, but its leading man makes the melodrama difficult to dismiss.
