About Ishq Hai

Ishq Hai turns a private romance into a bruising battle between love, family honour and control. Isra (Minal Khan) is an educated, dutiful young woman who loves Shahzaib (Danish Taimoor), an emotional businessman determined to marry her. Neither family will consent: Isra's father rejects love marriage, while Shahzaib's formidable mother Nafeesa (Saba Faisal) has already imagined him with his cousin. As pressure mounts and other matches are pushed into place, Shahzaib's devotion begins to look dangerously like possession, forcing Isra to choose between her own heart, her family's dignity and her right to be heard. Rehana Aftab's serial, directed by Aabis Raza, packs its romance with family politics, jealousy and melodrama, while veteran performers Babar Ali and Saba Faisal give the conflict real weight. Come for the charged pairing of Minal Khan and Danish Taimoor, stay for a love story that keeps asking whether passion without consent can truly be called love.

Our eyes stayed glued to Minal Khan and Danish Taimoor, who play every confrontation at a fever pitch, while Aabis Raza gives the weddings, costumes and shadowy interiors a properly grand sweep. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's title track does heavy emotional lifting too. Our gripe? The drama too often dresses control and coercion up as romance, then stretches the turmoil with slow-motion repetition. Glossy, gripping and maddening, Ishq Hai is compulsive melodrama with a moral blind spot.
