About Izn-e-Rukhsat
Sundus (Sonia Mishal) has grown up with a carefully polished lie. Raised by her mother, Tehreem (Faiza Hasan), after a painful separation from her father, Ehtisham (Faisal Rehman), she tells her university sweetheart Haider (Shehzad Sheikh) that she belongs to a warm, picture-perfect household. The fiction becomes impossible to maintain when Haider's widowed mother wants to meet the family before the young couple can marry. Desperate to protect both her romance and the identity she has built around it, Sundus persuades her estranged parents to share a home again for a few months. Their uneasy arrangement reopens old wounds and unsettles Ehtisham's second wife, Naila (Sabreen Hisbani), and his son. Written by Maha Malik, Izn-e-Rukhsat turns a wedding proposal into an intimate family pressure cooker, asking whether borrowed domestic harmony can heal the damage of years apart, or merely make every buried grievance harder to ignore.
Editor’s Take
The lie at Izn-e-Rukhsat's center is a wonderfully tense pressure cooker: every polite family ritual threatens to crack Sundus's picture-perfect facade. We especially like how the premise treats separation as a wound carried by the child, not just a dispute between adults. Our one gripe? Its message can lean too hard on a two-parent household as the cure, leaving single-parent resilience in the shade. Still, this is family melodrama with a sharp emotional hook and real bite.
