About Jalan (Telefilm)

Jalan turns sisterly affection into a pressure cooker of envy. Misha (Areeba Habib), the warm, compromising elder daughter in a close-knit home, has spent years giving her spoiled younger sister Nisha (Minal Khan) whatever she wants. That bargain collapses when affluent, polished Asfandyar (Emmad Irfani) falls for Misha and their marriage gives her a life Nisha begins to covet. Nisha already has the devotion of their cousin Ahmer (Fahad Sheikh), but contentment is not in her vocabulary. Her jealousy hardens into an obsession with her brother-in-law, pulling two sisters with opposite temperaments into an intimate battle over love, status and loyalty. Written by Sidra Sehar Imran and directed by Aabis Raza, Jalan works as a feverish family melodrama about the damage caused when comparison replaces affection. The hook is not simply forbidden desire, but the unsettling spectacle of a household discovering how much one person is willing to sacrifice to possess another's happiness.

Editor’s Take

Minal Khan gives Nisha a combustible mix of entitlement and hunger, while Areeba Habib's wounded restraint makes their sisterly collision land harder than the tabloid-ready premise suggests. The cast's conviction helps explain why contemporary coverage singled out the performances even amid the controversy. Our one gripe? The story leans so eagerly into provocation that its people can feel trapped inside the scandal. Messy, maddening and fiercely watchable, Jalan turns envy into a full-volume family inferno.
