About Jhooti (Movie)
This feature-length presentation of Jhooti follows Nirma (Iqra Aziz), a compulsive liar who sees affection as leverage and middle-class life as a trap. Her family understands the damage behind her charm, but her father's blind faith gives every new story room to grow. When she marries Nasir (Ahmed Ali Butt), a sincere neighborhood shopkeeper, Nirma treats his devotion as a route to property, status, and escape. Each deception tightens the conflict between two households, while accusations of mistreatment make truth increasingly difficult to defend. The arrival of the polished Ali (Yasir Hussain) seems to offer the wealthy life Nirma craves, yet his promises bring a more dangerous game of manipulation. Written by Ali Moeen and directed by Syed Ramish Rizvi, Jhooti builds its drama around ambition without restraint, a marriage poisoned by mistrust, and the unsettling question of what happens when a practiced liar finally meets someone equally skilled at deception.
Editor’s Take
Jhooti has a wickedly immediate hook: Nirma's lies turn every relationship into collateral, and the clash with Nasir gives the story its sharpest tension. Our real problem is the framing. By repeatedly using false domestic-abuse claims and marital protections as weapons, the script trades nuance for provocation, a concern contemporary criticism raised forcefully. The scheming also becomes exhausting rather than illuminating. It's bold, combustible television, but never as insightful as its premise promises.
