About Kabli Pulao

Kabli Pulao follows Haji Mushtaq (Muhammad Ehteshamuddin), a devout, middle-aged Punjabi cloth merchant in Lahore who has spent his life caring for family and helping others. His carefully ordered world shifts when Barbeena (Sabeena Farooq), a young Afghan refugee widow, enters his life while seeking help for her injured brother. A marriage formed under unusual circumstances brings together two people separated by age, language, culture and expectation, yet linked by gratitude and a quiet capacity for kindness.

Writer Zafar Mairaj and director Kashif Nisar turn that unlikely bond into a warm, observant drama about dignity, belonging and the work of building trust. As Haji and Barbeena negotiate family suspicion, social judgment and emotions neither can easily voice, Muhammad Ehteshamuddin's restraint meets Sabeena Farooq's watchful, affecting performance. Nadia Afgan and the ensemble add texture to a household where love, duty and pride constantly jostle for space. Tender without becoming sugary, Kabli Pulao finds romance in patience, compassion and the courage to cross a divide.
