About Malkin
Written by Sarwat Nazir, Malkin turns one wealthy household into a battleground for belonging, control and inheritance. Gulnaz (Maria Wasti) marries Yawar (Alyy Khan), an entitled heir who has never had to build a life of his own. When he brings her home, his mother Nafeesa Begum (Samina Ahmed) refuses to accept the match and transfers the family property to her younger son and daughter-in-law. Gulnaz stays, but her desire to become the true mistress of the mansion hardens into a campaign against everyone standing between her and power.
Maria Wasti leads the family drama as a woman whose ambition can unsettle every relationship around her, while Alyy Khan and Samina Ahmed anchor the fault line between marriage and maternal authority. The pleasures here are unapologetically melodramatic: a contested home, bruised pride, shifting loyalties and a protagonist willing to scheme for the status she believes is hers. Malkin is a sharp pick for viewers who enjoy domestic power struggles with a formidable antagonist at the center.
Editor’s Take
Maria Wasti gives this old-fashioned family melodrama its bite, turning Gulnaz's hunger for status into a performance contemporary coverage rightly found irresistible. Our one gripe? The setup paints her in such thick villain ink that the character's harder, more interesting contradictions can get buried. Still, Sarwat Nazir's battle over a household and its property has a wonderfully clean dramatic hook. Gulnaz does not merely enter the mansion, she bends the whole story around her.
