About Mata e Jaan Hai Tu

Haniya Sajjad (Sarwat Gilani), orphaned young and raised partly by her beloved grandmother in New York, meets Ibad Uzair (Adeel Hussain) while they are students at Columbia University. Their friendship turns into love, but the future they imagine collides with Ibad's powerful sense of duty and his father Uzair's (Javed Sheikh) refusal to accept the match. When fresh loss leaves Haniya alone, Ibad must choose between family approval and the woman he loves.

Back in Pakistan, that decision ripples through a household shaped by pride, tradition and buried tenderness. Farhat Ishtiaq's adaptation of her own novel also follows Haniya's sister Yamina (Sanam Saeed), whose troubled marriage to Adam (Junaid Khan) offers a darker counterpoint to the central romance. Directed by Mehreen Jabbar, Mata e Jaan Hai Tu turns a cross-continental love story into an intimate test of loyalty, grief and whether compassion can soften a family hardened by expectation.

Editor’s Take

Mehreen Jabbar gives Farhat Ishtiaq's romance a clean, intimate pulse, while Bilal Khan's wistful title song supplies the ache. Sarwat Gilani and Adeel Hussain take a little time to spark, but once Haniya and Ibad settle into each other, we're invested. Our gripe? The late stretch briefly loses momentum around a conspicuous absence. Still, at 17 episodes, this is tender, polished heartbreak with very little fat.
