About Munkir
Rona and Zain are about to be married when Gulrez walks into her life and quietly begins taking it apart. Zafar Mairaj builds Munkir on a deceptively simple triangle: a woman (Nida Khan) who believes love is worth staking everything on, the fiance (Osman Khalid Butt) who assumed their future was already settled, and the newcomer (Ahmed Ali) who arrives carrying intentions nobody around him can see. What complicates it is that Gulrez does not stay a straightforward villain. Falling for Rona genuinely starts to change him, right up until he learns something about her that turns all of that feeling into fury, and leaves Zain holding the wreckage. Directed by Nadeem Siddiqui for TV One, it is a character study before it is a melodrama, far more interested in how these three talk to one another than in how loudly they can collide.
Editor’s Take
Ahmed Ali walks away with this one. Gulrez could have been a flat schemer, and it is entirely down to him that the man's change of heart lands as something you believe rather than something the script simply announces. Around him the ensemble is easy and unforced, and Zafar Mairaj trusts people to just talk. Our one gripe? The story asks you to swallow some genuinely hard-to-buy turns before it is done. Watch it for Gulrez, forgive the contrivance.
