About Nijaat (2026)

Nijaat weaves three households in a Sindh village into a clear-eyed portrait of women negotiating health, work and power. Zareena, a community health worker, tries to serve an under-equipped town while helping her friend Sajida, whose repeated pregnancies have left her physically depleted and whose husband Huzoor Bakhsh resists family planning. Nearby, newly arrived assistant commissioner Ali Asad and his wife Tania bring an urban, upper-middle-class perspective to the same community. Led by Noman Ijaz, Atiqa Odho, Huma Nawab, Sajid Hasan and Marina Khan, the ensemble moves between intimate family pressures and wider questions of child labour, education and public health. Asghar Nadeem Syed's writing and Sahira Kazmi's direction make the village more than a backdrop: it becomes a web of aspiration, tradition, corruption and mutual dependence. This 13-episode PTV classic asks what meaningful progress looks like when reform must contend with class, custom and the daily compromises of survival.

Where Nijaat shines is in the way Asghar Nadeem Syed braids public health, class and women's autonomy into ordinary household friction. The three-family structure keeps its social argument human, and Sahira Kazmi's direction lets reform emerge through competing lives instead of a single sermon. Our one reservation? The development agenda sometimes sits visibly on the surface. Even so, this is issue-led television with a pulse, still sharp decades after its original broadcast.
