About Pardes

Pardes turns the familiar ache of overseas work into an intimate family drama about what money can repair and what distance quietly breaks. Ahsan (Sarmad Khoosat), the eldest son of a struggling household, leaves Pakistan to earn abroad, separating himself from his devoted wife Zubi (Shaista Lodhi) and their young daughter Aiman. Back home, Zubi absorbs the demands of Ahsan's formidable mother Mumtaz (Bushra Ansari) and the selfishness of his brother Asim (Gohar Rasheed), while Ahsan carries the burden of supporting everyone from afar. As the years pass, an older Aiman (Dur-e-Fishan Saleem) begins to understand how deeply her father's absence has shaped the family. Written by Sarwat Nazir and directed with tenderness by Marina Khan, the serial finds its emotional pull in small sacrifices, restrained affection, and the difficult choices faced by families divided by migration. It is heartfelt viewing for anyone who knows that remittances can never replace presence.

Editor’s Take

Shaista Lodhi's quiet melancholy and Sarmad Khoosat's aching restraint give Pardes its pulse, while Marina Khan keeps a heavy subject from sinking into pure melodrama. We especially love the small moments of affection that make the family's separation hurt. Our one gripe? The original double-episode scheduling made an already sorrowful story exhausting in long sittings. Still, Sarwat Nazir's portrait of migration and sacrifice hits close to home, and the performances make every absence feel painfully present.
