Phaans follows Zeba (Zara Noor Abbas), a young woman from a working-class family whose life is shattered by sexual assault during wedding festivities at the wealthy home where her mother works. When she identifies Sahil (Shehzad Sheikh), the apparently vulnerable son of the household, class privilege and his carefully protected image turn her search for justice into a punishing battle. As relatives close ranks and institutions fail her, Zeba finds an ally in Samad (Sami Khan), whose support helps her resist the pressure to stay silent.

Written by Samina Ijaz, this mystery-laced social drama keeps its focus on the survivor rather than the spectacle of the crime. Zara Noor Abbas gives Zeba the resolve at the centre of the story, while Shehzad Sheikh's unsettling performance makes every doubt and denial feel dangerous.
