About Raqs-e-Bismil

Moosa (Imran Ashraf) is the devout, hot-blooded son of a revered Syed pir, raised to believe his bloodline sets him above almost everyone around him. Zohra (Sarah Khan) is a dancer who performs at private gatherings, a woman the world is quick to judge and slow to understand. When Moosa falls for her, knowing little of who she really is, his rigid world and her precarious one collide with consequences neither can foresee. As family honour, religious pride, and long-buried hypocrisies are dragged into the light, both must decide what they are willing to sacrifice for a love that everything around them forbids. Written by Hashim Nadeem and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Wajahat Rauf for HUM TV, Raqs-e-Bismil, meaning the dance of the wounded, is a charged, ambitious love story about faith, class, and the painful gap between what people preach and how they actually live.

Editor’s Take

This is the one that made everyone fall for Imran Ashraf. His Moosa, all wounded faith and barely contained fire, is a career-best, and his chemistry with Sarah Khan genuinely broke the internet in its day. Wajahat Rauf shoots it like a film, lush and sweeping. Our small quibble? It opens by skewering clerical hypocrisy, then lets the grand romance gradually crowd those sharper questions out. Still, a gorgeous, fiercely acted drama that earned its hype.
