About Soteli

Soteli begins with a long-awaited blessing: Waleed (Deepak Perwani) and his wife (Sabreen Hisbani) finally welcome a son, Meekal (Aashir Wajahat), after years of prayer. Their home is warm, protective and perhaps a little too indulgent, until terminal illness takes the boy's mother and leaves both father and child reeling. Hoping to rebuild the family, Waleed remarries, bringing Fariya (Ayesha Khan) into the household. Instead of the comfort Meekal desperately needs, he meets resentment, emotional neglect and the creeping fear that he no longer belongs in his own home. His loneliness finds an outlet in letters to the mother he has lost, while his father remains slow to understand how deeply the new arrangement is wounding him. Written by Seema Ghazal, this 25-episode family drama turns a familiar stepmother premise into a close look at grief, parental blindness and the lasting damage adults can leave on a child.

The child's letters to his late mother are Soteli's sharpest idea, turning a stock family setup into something painfully intimate. We feel the cruelty most when Meekal cannot make the adults around him see what is happening under their roof. Our one gripe? The wicked-stepmother framing is blunt enough to make a fairy tale look subtle, echoing contemporary criticism that found the premise awfully typical. Still, its focus on a child's bruised inner world gives the melodrama a real sting.
