About Suno Chanda (Telefilm)
A grandfather's dying wish locks two squabbling cousins into a childhood nikah, and years later neither of them wants any part of it. Ajiya (Iqra Aziz) is sharp, ambitious and set on a degree in London. Arsal (Farhan Saeed) is a laid-back Punjabi boy with no interest in bettering himself and less in being told what to do. With the joint family counting down to the rukhsati and Bi Jaan (Samina Ahmed) presiding over the house, the two scheme, separately and together, to get the marriage called off, until jealousy, meddling relatives and a visiting cousin turn every escape route into a trap. HUM TV's Eid film condenses Saima Akram Chaudhry's beloved Ramadan comedy into one three-hour sitting, with Nabeel Zuberi, Mashal Khan, Nadia Afgan and Farhan Ally Agha filling out Pakistani television's noisiest, warmest household.
Editor’s Take
Eight years on, the Iqra Aziz and Farhan Saeed pairing still crackles, and Saima Akram Chaudhry's dialogue remains the rare Pakistani comedy writing that earns its laughs from words rather than mugging. Samina Ahmed and Nadia Afgan steal whole scenes. Our gripe is the format: thirty episodes squeezed into three hours clips the slow domestic build that made this a Ramadan ritual down to punchlines. A joy on a rewatch, a blur on a first meeting.
