About Umeed

Umeed (Sidra Batool) is a bright, gentle girl from a lower middle-class household whose whole world is her mother, Zainab (Erum Akhtar). The two of them are a closed circuit of warmth in a home where money is always short. That closeness cracks when Umeed's father, Saleem Akram (Kashif Mehmood), lets financial hardship curdle into resentment and begins turning the stereotypes society aims at struggling families onto his own wife and daughter. When the marriage gives way, Zainab refuses to shrink. She stands up for herself and sets out to raise her daughter alone, only to discover that the stigma attached to a divorced woman is louder than anything her husband ever said. Har Pal Geo's daily serial, written by Mehrunnisa Mustaqeem Khan, follows both women as relatives, neighbours and whispered remarks close in around a fight for ordinary dignity.
