About Ustani Jee
Shehwar (Yasra Rizvi), known throughout her neighbourhood as Ustani Jee, is a psychology professor, a tutor to local children and the unofficial first call when somebody's home life starts to unravel. Orphaned after helping arrange her younger siblings' marriages, she now lives alone, but solitude has not made her retreat from the world. Instead, her classroom instincts and stubborn compassion draw her into the social and domestic troubles that families prefer to keep behind closed doors. Each chapter brings a new household and a different pressure point, while recurring faces played by Hammad Farooqui and Ghana Ali keep her community feeling connected. Written by Rizvi and shaped as an anthology, Ustani Jee turns one determined woman's neighbourhood rounds into a wider portrait of people negotiating shame, expectation and the need to be heard. It is a socially alert drama with an inviting hook: practical empathy becomes its heroine's most persuasive form of courage.
Editor’s Take
Yasra Rizvi gives this anthology its sharpest idea: a woman armed with psychological insight becomes the person an entire neighbourhood trusts with problems it would rather hide. The rotating households let the drama inspect women's social pressures from fresh angles, with Ustani Jee holding the moral centre. Our one gripe? The case-of-the-week frame presses thorny conflicts into tidy television-sized boxes. Still, this is socially alert storytelling with a generous, quietly radical heart.
