The Story Behind Aayi Aayi

Aayi Aayi opened Coke Studio Pakistan's fifteenth season in April 2024 with a Sindhi celebration shaped by curator and producer Xulfi. Noman Ali Rajper and Babar Mangi wrote the song, composing it with Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui, while Marvi and Saiban join them on vocals. Its narrative draws on the folk tale of Umar Marvi: after resisting a king's offer of queenship, Marvi returns to her own people, and the village welcomes her home. The song turns that return into a wider celebration of women's victory and attachment to community. A windswept opening expands into an exuberant folk-pop arrangement, where Babar's rap and the ensemble singing meet the dry, dancing pulse of chung and khartaal. As Season 15's first release, it introduced the season through Sindhi language, desert imagery and collective joy.

Meaning & Translation

Aayi Aayi means "here she comes" in Sindhi, an exclamation of welcome for Marvi as she returns to her village. The song reimagines the ending of the Umar Marvi folk tale, focusing on the young woman's refusal to exchange belonging for royal comfort. Her homecoming becomes both a triumph and a celebration. The refrain carries the excitement of people announcing her arrival, while the verses connect her resolve with pride in Sindhi identity, friendship and shared roots. Rather than treating success as individual glory, the song presents victory as freedom to choose one's own place and people. Its joyful tone makes resilience feel festive: Marvi does not simply escape captivity, she comes back to a community ready to celebrate her.
