The Story Behind Urainge
Ali Zafar released Urainge in February 2015 as a tribute to the children and teachers killed in the December 2014 attack on Army Public School in Peshawar. He sang, composed and wrote the Urdu single, released by Saga Music. Baqir Abbas supplied flute and orchestral arrangement, while Asad Ahmed and Danyal Zafar played electric and acoustic guitar. Ahmed recalled that his part grew from an initial bass idea into a broader arrangement with more guitars. The video brought together Pakistani musicians, actors and cricketer Shoaib Malik, reflecting Zafar's stated hope of showing national unity. Its movement from mourning toward resolve gives the song a purpose beyond remembrance: to imagine a safer future for children.
Meaning & Translation
Urainge means "we will fly" in Urdu. In this song, flight stands for hope after the Peshawar school attack, while the sorrow of the people left behind remains present. The opening thought acknowledges a community shaken by loss but unwilling to surrender to it. The recurring image of another sky then imagines a world where children are safe, mothers are not separated from them, and no one is left alone. The refrain turns private grief into a shared promise: remembering the victims also means working toward a gentler future. Its hope is collective, rooted in care rather than a claim that the pain has passed.
