The Story Behind Aurat

Ali Zafar released "Aurat" on his official YouTube channel on 8 March 2019, International Women's Day. He wrote and recited the Urdu poem himself; the video's description pairs the original words with an English translation. In the accompanying video he sits at a piano, giving the brief spoken piece a spare musical setting. ARY News covered it that day as a tribute to women, and the poem also appeared on Spotify as a standalone 2019 track. The verse moves from morning light to moonlight and the sharper heat of the sun, finding strength as well as tenderness in its subject. With no chorus to return to, the recording works as a direct address, ending in a salute rather than a conventional pop song hook.

Meaning & Translation

"Aurat" means "woman" in Urdu. The poem addresses women through images of morning, moonlight and bright sun, using changes in light to suggest both gentleness and strength. Its speaker then asks what he would be without a woman beside him, making gratitude the center of the address. The final image places her in command of his inner life while he offers respect and affection. Read as a whole, the piece presents love as a debt he recognizes rather than a possession he claims. It is a personal tribute, framed in a man's voice, and does not claim to describe every woman's experience.
