The Story Behind Raati Chann
Raati Chann arrived in February 2023 as a collaboration between Ali Zafar and Buggs & Ozzy, released on Zafar's official channel. The credits name Salman Nafees (Buggs) for lyrics and rap, Usama Moeen (Ozzy) for composition and vocals, and Zafar for vocals and the composition of the Bulleh Shah passage. Danyal Zafar and Alistair Alvin handled sound production, while Babrakk directed the film for Lightingale Records and Starfall Pictures. Musically, the track moves between Punjabi singing, rap, and a Sufi verse, using those shifts to frame its argument about social divisions and personal change. It is less a conventional moonlit love song than a conversation among restless artists and the world they want to challenge.
Meaning & Translation
Raati Chann means "the moon at night" in Punjabi, but the image becomes a sign of people who emerge from darkness with the courage to be different. The song pushes against inherited divisions of caste and social approval, then turns inward: change begins when a person stops repeating defeated patterns and chooses a principled path. Its reference to Bulleh Shah deepens that idea by imagining a place where identity and status no longer decide who belongs. The rap and sung passages move between frustration and hope, presenting self-examination as the first step toward changing a colorless, unjust world.
