The Story Behind Mere Naina
Mere Naina is the Urdu theme for ARY Digital's 2024-25 serial Bharam, recorded by Yashal Shahid and Hamid Naqibi. Naveed Nashad composed the song, with lyrics by Qamar Nashad, for a drama built around love, trust, betrayal and a young woman's contested place inside her family. The series stars Hina Tariq as Sajjal alongside Rabya Kulsoom and Omer Shahzad; Naveed Ali Khan directed it, while Sabeen Junaid and Maimoona Aziz wrote it. Released by ARY Digital in January 2025, the compact track returns to an appeal for divine mercy, giving the serial's deceptions and broken loyalties a mournful musical frame. Its two-voice billing and recurring prayer anchor the theme in grief rather than spectacle.
Meaning & Translation
Mere Naina means "my eyes," and here the image is of eyes worn out by weeping. The song speaks from the position of someone whose closest companion has become a stranger. Surrounded by selfishness, shame and loneliness, the narrator turns away from unreliable human bonds and asks Maula, God, for mercy. Her prayers are less a demand for reunion than a plea to have her anguish seen before it hardens into a deeper wound. The refrain therefore holds two emotions at once: heartbreak over abandonment and fragile faith that compassion can still reach her.
