The Story Behind Chaal OST

Chaal is the title track of the Har Pal Geo serial that began its daily seven o'clock run on 1 June 2024, and it reached the channel two days before the first episode did. Wajhi Farooki sings it and wrote the words himself; the composition is credited to Team Wajhi Farooki, the credit that recurs across his other soundtrack work.

Furqan Adam directed the serial for Gold Bridge Entertainment from a script by Nadia Ahmed, with Ali Ansari, Zubab Rana, Arez Ahmed and Bakhtawar Khan leading a cast of feuding households. The drama turns an old betrayal into a bargain sealed by two weddings, and the song answers all that noise quietly: across two minutes and forty eight seconds there is no second voice and no chorus to lean on, only Farooki circling back to the line jee raha hoon main.

Meaning & Translation

Chaal is Urdu for a move in a game, the calculated step a player takes to trap an opponent, and the serial takes its name from exactly that kind of gambit. The song stands on the other side of the board, with the person the move was played on.

Its refrain, jee raha hoon main, translates plainly as I am living, and the plainness is the point: this is not a declaration of happiness but an admission of getting by. Farooki leaves the loss unnamed and stays with what survives it, a presence held in memory rather than in the room, so the line reads less as endurance boasted about than as endurance conceded.
