The Story Behind Yaqeen

Yaqeen is Wajiha Naqvi's original song for Coke Studio 2020, released in the season's second episode in December 2020. She wrote and leads the performance, with composition shared by Naqvi and Zara Madani, whose tarana contribution adds a classical contour. Rohail Hyatt produced and arranged the recording during the pandemic-era season, when performers were recorded separately. The arrangement frames Naqvi's reflective vocal in a modern raga rock setting, with Asad Ahmed's electric guitar, Shehroze Hussain's sitar and Nawazish Nasri's rabab giving the track both weight and lift. Backing vocalists Nimra Rafiq, Kumail Jaffery, Shahab Hussain and Zara Madani broaden the refrain, turning a personal meditation on self-belief into a collective statement.

Meaning & Translation

Yaqeen means belief, faith or certainty in Urdu. Here the word points inward: the song treats confidence not as loud bravado, but as something patiently rebuilt when fear and doubt begin to take hold. Its central idea is that a person can move through uncertainty by trusting the strength already present within them. The classically inflected vocal phrases give that resolve a contemplative quality, while the rock arrangement makes it feel active rather than abstract. As the backing voices join the lead, the private act of finding courage expands into shared reassurance. The song's message is therefore both intimate and communal: believe in yourself, hold steady through difficulty, and let conviction become the force that carries you forward.
