The Story Behind Pareek
Pareek introduced Coke Studio Explorer in July 2018, bringing Kalasha singers Ariana and Amrina from Bumburet Valley, Chitral, into the series' first release. Producers Zohaib Kazi and Ali Hamza recorded the folk song on location rather than moving its performers into the familiar studio format. The project was designed to uncover regional voices and present Pakistan's cultural range, and the pair's bright, closely matched singing carries that idea immediately. Traditional melody and communal vocal energy sit over a contemporary electronic pulse, so the track feels rooted in Kalash tradition without being treated like a museum piece. As an opening statement for the five-song Explorer project, it turns a local invitation to travel into an expansive welcome: follow the singers, the landscape, and the song.
Meaning & Translation
Pareek means "let's go" in Kalasha, and the song treats movement as an invitation shared with someone dear. Its recurring call urges a companion to leave familiar ground, travel through the valley, and imagine a place prepared with affection and honor. Beneath that outward journey is a love song about closeness: the destination matters less than going together. References to roads, distant places, a golden throne, and a wounded heart give the folk text both celebratory and yearning shades. Ariana and Amrina's repeated refrain makes the message feel communal, as if one private invitation has widened into a village chorus welcoming the listener along.
