The Story Behind Muntazir
Muntazir brought Danyal Zafar and Momina Mustehsan together for the opening episode of Coke Studio Pakistan's tenth season in August 2017. The performance also marked Zafar's Coke Studio and music debut, placing his first televised release beside one of the platform's returning voices. Strings produced and directed the session, handled its music direction, and wrote the lyrics. The arrangement keeps the duet at the centre while guest players Syed Adeel Ali on guitar, Bradley D'Souza on bass, and Joshua Keyth Benjamin on keys give the song a polished pop frame. Rather than turning longing into melodrama, the performance lets the two singers trade perspective: one voice waits, the other supplies the courage to close the distance.
Meaning & Translation
Muntazir means "waiting" or "one who waits" in Urdu. The song treats that waiting as the nervous pause before two people admit feelings they already sense in each other. Its central image is distance: one lover remains here in hope while the other is elsewhere, unaware of how deeply they are missed. The wish for the night to stop is less about time itself than a desire to preserve the imagined moment when separation finally ends. A second voice gently pushes against hesitation, urging the waiting lover to speak honestly and move forward. The duet therefore shifts from private yearning toward reassurance, making patience feel hopeful rather than defeated.
