The Story Behind Yo Soch
Released in Coke Studio Season 10's sixth episode in 2017, "Yo Soch" brings Ali Zafar and Natasha Khan into a bilingual conversation shaped by Strings, who composed and produced the recording and led its music direction. Sabir Zafar and Natasha Khan wrote the words, moving between Urdu and Pashto as two lovers voice the same restless longing from different sides. The arrangement draws on classic jazz and musical theatre, but its character comes from the colours around the duet: Shehroze Hussain's sitar, Sajid Ali's flute, Amir Azhar's nylon guitar and Joshua Keyth Benjamin's keyboards. Rachel Viccaji and Shahab Hussain provide backing vocals, adding another layer without crowding the leads. The result is a carefully staged exchange, with Khan's delicate delivery and Zafar's emotive voice meeting across language, texture and perspective.
Meaning & Translation
The title phrase introduces a thought that has taken hold of the mind, and the song turns that thought into a shared longing. Its Urdu and Pashto voices imagine two lovers searching for a bond they can feel but cannot complete. Time keeps moving, flowers open and fade, and memories threaten to become stories, yet neither person lets go. Images of shade, rain and inner fire make distance feel physical: love promises comfort, but separation keeps burning. When the two languages answer one another, the central discovery is that the waiting is mutual. Each lover carries the same restlessness, uncertainty and hope, so the duet is not simply about absence. It is about recognizing oneself in another person's unfinished desire.
