Coke Studio Pakistan opened Season 8 with “Sohni Dharti,” releasing the two-minute ensemble performance on 4 August 2015 as an Independence Day tribute. Produced and directed by Strings, the rendition honors composer Sohail Rana and lyricist Masroor Anwar, the creators of the beloved national song first associated with Shahnaz Begum. Instead of building the track around one lead singer, the video passes brief phrases among the season’s featured voices, including Farida Khanum, Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, Quratulain Balouch and many more. Anwar Maqsood’s spoken interlude adds a reflective pause before the voices gather again. The spare, gently swelling arrangement turns a season-lineup reveal into a communal performance, using contrasting generations and vocal traditions to express a shared sense of national belonging.

“Sohni Dharti” means “beautiful land.” The song addresses Pakistan with the tenderness normally reserved for a loved one, then turns that affection into a prayer for protection, freedom and lasting prosperity.
