The Story Behind Beparwah
Beparwah is Momina Mustehsan's solo performance from Coke Studio Season 14, released in March 2022. Composed by Soch members Adnan Dhool and Rabi Ahmed, with lyrics by Dhool and additions from Mustehsan and Xulfi, it was produced by Xulfi and Action Zain. The song frames private longing as an intimate appeal to the divine, matching Mustehsan's restrained voice with a layered arrangement. Sarod, harmonium, synths, percussion and choir build from solitude toward a glowing peak before the closing vocal returns the performance to stillness. Directed by Zeeshan Parwez, the video places her in an imagined forest, turning the prayer-like song into a visual passage through uncertainty, surrender and hope. As Season 14's only solo track, Beparwah stands apart through its focus on one voice and a carefully widening soundscape.
Meaning & Translation
Beparwah means careless, unconcerned or indifferent in Urdu and Punjabi. Here the word is an anxious plea rather than an accusation: the singer asks her saiyan, a beloved who also carries a divine presence, not to turn away or remain displeased. She brings exhaustion, tears and longing into prayer, asking to be reunited with the one she seeks. The song moves between human love and spiritual surrender, leaving the identity of the beloved deliberately open. Its central emotion is the fear of being forgotten, balanced by faith that an answer will come. The repeated title therefore gathers urgency each time, while the final return to solitude suggests hope without easy certainty.
