The Story Behind Phir Milenge

Phir Milenge closed Coke Studio Season 14 in March 2022, bringing Faisal Kapadia together with Urdu rap duo Young Stunners. Xulfi composed and co-produced the song with Abdullah Siddiqui, while Adnan Dhool, Talha Anjum, Talha Yunus and Xulfi wrote its words. The collaboration also marked an important new beginning for Kapadia: after Strings ended, he had stepped away from music until Xulfi persuaded him to return. That generational meeting shapes the recording, with Kapadia's full, weathered melody answering the rappers' tightly paced verses. A minimal chord progression, layered synths, drums and the sweep of the Lahore Jazz Ensemble give the song both intimacy and scale. Released as the season finale, it turns a farewell into a promise that parting is not necessarily an ending.

Meaning & Translation

Phir Milenge means "we will meet again" in Urdu, and the title holds the song's central tension: separation hurts, yet memory keeps open the possibility of reunion. The verses move through regret, distance and conversations that continue in the mind after someone has gone. Rather than pretending the loss can be repaired immediately, the song allows grief and affection to exist together. Faisal Kapadia's refrain gives those restless thoughts a gentler answer, suggesting that two people may cross paths again even if they return as strangers. In this sense, the farewell is neither final nor simply romantic. It is a hopeful way of carrying an absent person forward while accepting that time may change both sides.
