The Story Behind Inaam-e-Mohabbat OST
Inaam-e-Mohabbat's title track went up on Har Pal Geo on 17 June 2022, two days before the serial began its daily 7 p.m. run. Aqeel Ahmed wrote the lyric and composed the music with Fahad Siddiqui, so the words and the tune come from the same hand, and the song holds to one idea throughout: the reward love hands you and the wound it leaves behind are the same object. That is the drama in miniature. Furqan Adam's Gold Bridge Entertainment serial, written by Erum Wasi and Saima Wasi, ran 56 episodes on a matriarch (Sakina Samo) who arranges her children's marriages like acquisitions, against her son and the daughter of the family driver, played by Haroon Shahid and Nazish Jahangir, who will not take her terms. Geo released the song in two renditions, this one sung by Jabir Abbas and a companion female version by Rose Mary.
Meaning & Translation
Inaam-e-Mohabbat means the prize of love, and the song plays that phrase as a question rather than a boast. An inaam is what you are handed for winning something, so calling heartache the prize of love is deliberate irony: the trophy and the injury turn out to be one object. The verses circle wounds taken willingly, a fate that never explains itself, and a self that dissolves into wanting somebody. The refrain settles into exactly the acceptance the drama spends its run testing, that love is a small and lovely delusion people walk into with their eyes open, knowing what it will cost them.
