The Story Behind Iqtidar OST (Live Performance)
Three months after Iqtidar premiered on Green Entertainment, its title song stepped out of the recording booth. This is Arshman Khan singing the drama's OST live at Taste Fest 2024 in Gulberg Greens, Islamabad, filmed by the channel and published on 12 December 2024. Khan composed the song as well as sang it, sharing the studio version with Farrukh Mehervi over lyrics by Fatima Najeeb, and he wrote the theme music running under the serial itself.
Iqtidar, written by Hina Huma Nafees, directed by Fahim Burney and produced by Multiverse Entertainment, follows Anmol Baloch's Mehr-un-Nisa as she takes on a politically shielded family over her brother's death. On a festival stage the song arrives without the serial's pictures behind it, just the Punjabi refrain, Ishq rula ve, and a voice carrying it.
Meaning & Translation
Nothing in this song is about iqtidar. The word means authority and it belongs to the serial, not to the lyric. The hook is Punjabi, built on one word repeated: ishq, love, and what it does to a person. Ishq rula ve, love makes you weep, opens it, and the lines after it keep handing love the verbs, laughing, wandering, dancing, until whoever is on the receiving end has become a jhalla, the Punjabi word for someone love has driven half mad.
Fatima Najeeb's Urdu verses underneath are quieter, a broken heart and a wound that refuses to close. On a festival stage, with no drama to cut back to, the song is just that: a list of what loving costs.
