Meaning & Translation
The title Jana Jogi Dey Naal means I want to go with the yogi in Punjabi. Bulleh Shah uses the yogi as a layered figure: in the Heer and Ranjha story, Ranjha returns in a yogi's guise, while in Sufi thought the beloved can also signify the divine. The speaker's wish to follow him therefore carries both romantic longing and spiritual surrender. As the poem moves from separation toward identification with the beloved, ordinary boundaries of self begin to disappear.
