Meaning & Translation
The title Khabaram Raseeda comes from the Persian opening idea, "news reached me tonight," announcing that the beloved is coming. Amir Khusrau's poem turns that news into overwhelming hope: the waiting lover is ready to sacrifice everything for the road on which the beloved will arrive. As the verses move toward death, funeral and grave imagery, arrival becomes urgent, since a visit after the lover is gone would come too late. In the Sufi tradition, the beloved can be heard both as a human presence and as the Divine, so romantic longing opens into spiritual surrender. The Urdu interpolations and repeated invocations in this rendition make the central feeling immediate: love itself keeps the waiting soul alive.
