Kyun Main Jaagoon is a Hindi film ballad from the 2011 Patiala House soundtrack, sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali and composed by Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. Anvita Dutt Guptan wrote the lyrics. A later account in the book Change Makers says she wrote the song on the day her marriage ended, a personal rupture that lends unusual weight to its questions about loss, home and purpose.
The arrangement begins in restraint, leaving space around Ali's bruised, searching vocal, then gradually gathers force without turning grief into spectacle. T-Series' official film video features Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma, while the soundtrack also carries a separate unplugged version. Meaning & Translation
Kyun Main Jaagoon means "Why should I remain awake?" in Hindi. It is not really about sleep. It comes from someone whose dreams and sense of home have collapsed, leaving the body alive while the self feels absent. The song addresses God and fate with bewilderment: why continue, where is home, and what destination remains when every familiar path has disappeared?
Its imagery turns heartbreak into dislocation. A missing door, destinationless roads and a scattered heartbeat describe a person estranged from his life. The refrain keeps returning to wakefulness because consciousness itself has become painful.
