Mujhay Vida Kar is the title track of ARY Digital's 2021 serial of the same name, composed and sung by Shani Arshad opposite Yashal Shahid, to a lyric by Sabir Zafar. Samra Bukhari wrote the serial around two close friends, Rida and Sadia, whose ideas about settling down pull them in opposite directions, and the song puts the same question in the first person.

Saqib Zafar Khan directed, with Madiha Imam, Saboor Aly and Muneeb Butt heading the cast, and the drama ran Monday to Thursday at seven in the evening. ARY posted this four-minute cut with the dialogue stripped out in June 2021, and released the same recording to streaming as Mujhe Vida Kar (Original Score), credited to Shani Arshad and Yashal Shahid.

Meaning & Translation

Vida karna is the Urdu verb for sending someone off, and in the wedding vocabulary of the subcontinent it names one particular moment: the rukhsati, when a bride is given her leave and walks out of her parents' house. So Mujhay Vida Kar is not a plea to be left alone. It is a plea to be released, spoken by the person who is doing the leaving, and that inversion is where the song lives. The farewell is asked for rather than suffered, which is why a serial about two friends working out what they want from marriage takes the phrase for its title and its theme song.
