The Story Behind Nadaan OST
Nadaan OST brings Zara Madani and Faisal Kapadia together for Mehreen Jabbar's 2024 HUM TV serial. Madani also composed the song, Asim Raza wrote its lyrics, and Ali Mustafa handled music production. The duet accompanies the story of Dr Tabeer, who runs a hospital in Jam Nagar, and an honest police officer confronting a drug network that exploits fear and superstition. Its two-voice design suits that uneasy alliance: separate perspectives keep returning to the same emotional question. Kapadia later recalled that he and Madani had sung the tune for Jabbar's miniseries, placing the recording among his early soundtrack work after Strings. Rather than retelling the thriller directly, the song turns its tension inward, using distance, withheld tears, and mutual vulnerability to give the drama a gentler emotional center.
Meaning & Translation
Nadaan means innocent, naive, or unwise in Urdu. The song uses the word as a tender accusation shared by two people who still care for each other but allow silence to create distance. Tears held back, blurred memories, and two ends of a single thread suggest a bond that remains alive even while the pair feel separated. The recurring question asks why they keep acting foolishly when neither is angry and both still recognize the other as their destination. In that sense, the refrain is less about blame than emotional hesitation: love is present, but pride or uncertainty prevents an honest reunion.
