The Story Behind Raabte

Raabte is Ali Tariq's own work at almost every level: he wrote the words, composed the melody and sang it, then shared the arrangement with Ahsan Ali Taj, who also produced the music. Pranav Gupta mixed and mastered the record. ARY Zap released it in July 2022 as a standalone single rather than a soundtrack cut, and Shahzeb Hussain directed the video, which casts actor Alizeh Shah opposite Tariq and frames him painting her portrait as he sings. Tariq is a self-taught musician who built a name in playback before releasing under his own, and Raabte plays to that: a soulful romantic ballad carried by one voice and a restrained arrangement rather than a big chorus. Singer and composer Azaan Sami Khan publicly congratulated him when it landed.

Meaning & Translation

Raabta in Urdu means a connection, a link, a line of contact between two people, and raabte is its plural: not one bond but all the small threads that keep two people tied to each other. Tariq uses the word the way people use it in ordinary Urdu conversation, where saying you have a raabta with someone can mean anything from staying in touch to being unable to stop thinking about them. The song sits in that ambiguity. It is addressed to someone the singer keeps circling back to, and its romance is less about declaration than about noticing how much of yourself is already bound up in another person.
