The Story Behind Raat Din

Released on 14 February 2023, Raat Din brought brothers Ali Zafar and Danyal Zafar together for their first recorded collaboration, with Danyal billed as Danny Zee. The song's animated video places their avatars in dreamlike and post-apocalyptic worlds, turning a tale of separation into a meditation on what is real. Saeed Qureshi wrote and composed the central couplet, while Ali and Danyal created their own sections and jointly produced the track. Alistair Alvin handled additional arrangement. The spare, meditative pop setting keeps the Urdu refrain in focus before Danny Zee's English verse changes the song's texture. Released through Ali Zafar's channel as the opening statement for AZX, the collaboration links romantic longing with the video's contrast between night and day, memory and alternate reality.

Meaning & Translation

Raat din literally means "night and day," and here it describes a mind occupied by one person without pause. The narrator remains tangled in memories of a lover, unable to understand the distance between them or why affection has turned into betrayal. Images of wandering, sleeplessness and breathlessness make the separation feel physical as well as emotional. Danny Zee's English verse brings the same jealousy and uncertainty into a contemporary register, but the central feeling does not change. The repeated title becomes a measure of persistence: whether awake or dreaming, in daylight or darkness, he keeps returning to the relationship and to questions that receive no answer.
