The Story Behind Raqeeb Se OST
Raqeeb Se OST grew directly out of Hadiqa Kiani's work as Sakina in HUM TV's 2021 drama. While absorbing the character, Kiani found a poem by her mother, Khawar Kiani, and shaped its words into a melody. Director Kashif Nisar approved the piece, after which Kiani asked Baqir Abbas to build the arrangement around the drama and its characters. Kiani performs and composes the track, Khawar Kiani supplies the lyric, and Abbas gives the recording its haunting, sorrowful setting. That creative overlap is unusually close: the singer is also one of the drama's central actors, carrying Sakina's emotional history into the vocal. Written for Bee Gul's story of old love and its lasting consequences, the song's plaintive melody frames the series with regret, longing and the unease of affection that never truly disappears.
Meaning & Translation
Raqeeb is the Urdu word for a rival in love, and the title turns attention toward the person who shares the beloved's affection. Khawar Kiani's poem speaks from inside betrayal: familiar scenes, promises and sources of comfort prove deceptive, while the beloved appears to choose another hand. The search is not only for lost love but also for a self obscured by grief. Images of a dark night and unreliable stars make hope feel distant and uncertain. Rather than attacking the rival, the song dwells on the wound left by misplaced trust. Its refrain circles back to deception, matching the drama's world of old attachments, jealousy and emotional consequences that refuse to disappear.
