The Story Behind Rishtay Biktay Hain OST
Released for ARY Digital's 2019 serial Rishtay Biktay Hain, this title song pairs Waqar Ali's voice with his own composition and words by Sabir Zafar. The drama follows Zeba as love and family loyalty are pushed aside by greed, with dowry turning marriage into a transaction. That premise gives the OST its emotional center: a relationship is not merely broken, it is priced. Waqar Ali's dual role as singer and composer gives the track a unified musical identity, while Sabir Zafar's writing frames the serial's social critique in a direct, memorable title. The result is a compact theme song that carries the weight of Zeba's betrayal and the wider burden placed on daughters and their families.
Meaning & Translation
"Rishtay biktay hain" literally means "relationships are sold." The title treats marriage as a marketplace, where affection and loyalty lose value once money, status, and dowry enter the bargain. In the drama's context, the phrase captures Zeba's painful discovery that a promised relationship can be traded for a wealthier match. The song's central idea is therefore larger than one romance: when families measure people by what they can provide, even intimate bonds become transactions. Its message condemns that exchange and asks listeners to see dignity, trust, and human feeling as things no price should control.
