The Story Behind Chal Dil Mere (feat. Talha Anjum)
Chal Dil Mere began in 2003 on Huqa Pani, the debut album that turned Ali Zafar into a household name, composed by Saeed Qureshi to a lyric by Shameem. Twenty two years later he reopened it. This reading appears on Roshni, his fourth studio album and his first in more than a decade, released on 20 December 2025 through Lightingale Records.
The arrangement is deliberately unhurried, a lo fi bed that Vikraah threads with guitar and bass while Alistair Alvin programs the additional drums, with Ali Zafar and Vikraah sharing the production and Irshad Shaikh handling the mix and master. The addition that changes the song is Talha Anjum, who writes and performs a rap verse answering the old refrain in a present tense voice.
Meaning & Translation
The title is an address to the singer's own heart: chal dil mere is roughly come on, my heart, let us go. What follows is a decision to stop circling. The refrain calls the world jhooti, false, and its people lootere, robbers who take and move on, and the answer to them is not anger but departure.
The verses sharpen that into a catalogue of what is for sale, wealth worshipped, beauty traded, promises made cheaply, until even conviction has a price. Talha Anjum picks the thread up in the present, weighing right against wrong and choosing to walk on with the eyes open. It is a leaving song rather than a bitter one.
