The Story Behind Tu Nawa Tu Sada
Tu Nawa Tu Sada is Hadiqa Kiani's patriotic song from Roshni, written and composed by Ali Tim. He created the milli naghma in 1997 for her second album, and its video was released on Pakistan's Independence Day in 1998. Filmed in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi, the video included archival footage of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and animation work by H2O.
The title's paired images of melody and voice give the song a direct, memorable point of address: Pakistan itself. Its national theme sits alongside the other pop songs on Roshni, linking Kiani's album work with an Independence Day tribute. Kiani's official YouTube channel shared the video again in August 2021, bringing the 1998 release into her online archive.
Meaning & Translation
Tu Nawa Tu Sada can be understood as "You are the melody, you are the voice." In Urdu, nawa evokes musical sound or song, while sada means a voice or call. Here the intimate "you" addresses Pakistan, giving a national tribute the language of personal affection.
The images of a dream, breath, heart and soul suggest that the country belongs within the speaker's sense of self. Read this way, the title presents Pakistan as something heard and carried inside a person, with singing becoming an expression of belonging. Its central feeling is love for the homeland, expressed through closeness and shared identity.
