Meaning & Translation

The title means "May my name at least come to their lips." Ada Jafri's speaker longs not for an easy reunion, but for any sign that the beloved still remembers the speaker, even if that remembrance arrives as blame. Images of closed buds, fragrance carrying a message, stars, evening, and a road toward the beloved turn silence into a landscape of waiting. The poem accepts lesser consolations when fulfillment is impossible: if dawn cannot come, evening will do; if affection cannot be voiced, accusation is still acknowledgement.
