The Story Behind Yaadein
Karavan's "Yaadein" appeared in "Reason", the opening episode of Coke Studio Pakistan's third season, in June 2010. The official video bills the band and names Rohail Hyatt as producer. A contemporary account described the performance as soft rock, with the original band joined by musicians from the show's house ensemble. That combination places Karavan's rock sound within the larger Coke Studio setting while keeping the group at the center of the performance. Hyatt's own channel now hosts the four-minute studio recording with its Season 3 identity intact. The track stood alongside performances by Arieb Azhar, Abida Parveen, Arif Lohar with Meesha Shafi, and Zeb and Haniya in the season's opening program, giving a rock band its own place in that varied lineup.
Meaning & Translation
"Yaadein" means "memories" in Urdu. The song speaks from the uneasy place where remembering someone hurts, yet forgetting them feels impossible. Its speaker first imagines relief in losing the past, then circles back to the person who still occupies their thoughts. Images of exhausting days and heavy nights make memory feel physical, as though absence has altered the weather of everyday life. By the end, longing complicates the wish to forget: the same voice that wants distance also wants closeness to return. The recurring appeal captures that contradiction without resolving it. This is grief over a relationship expressed as an argument with one's own memory.
