The Story Behind Zindagi
Zindagi is Atif Aslam's 2023 reinterpretation of Mehdi Hassan's classic ghazal Zindagi Mein To Sabhi Pyar Kiya Karte Hain, released by Sufiscore. Qateel Shifai wrote the poetry and Nashad composed the original melody, while the Leo Twins produced and arranged this recording. Aslam described the performance as a gesture of respect for Mehdi Hassan, acknowledging the challenge of approaching the ghazal maestro's work. The Leo Twins place a prominent string section around his vocal, giving the rendition contemporary scale without losing the song's reflective pace. Sufiscore's companion video, directed by Rizwan Sherazi and starring Saboor Aly opposite Aslam, translates its promise of lasting devotion into a story of intimacy, separation and remembrance.
Meaning & Translation
Zindagi means life in Urdu, and the song uses a lifetime as the measure of devotion. Meeting the beloved makes the speaker feel that his allotted years are too few for the love he wants to give. He imagines keeping that person as close as his own heartbeat, rejecting even the thought of separation and promising care beyond death. The central contrast is between ordinary love, which everyone experiences in life, and a commitment that refuses life's final boundary. Qateel Shifai's verse therefore treats romance less as passing emotion than as guardianship, sacrifice and constancy, with worldly sorrow present but unable to displace the beloved.
