About Aik Hai Nigar
Aik Hai Nigar is a biographical telefilm inspired by the remarkable life of Lieutenant General Nigar Johar, the first woman in the history of the Pakistan Army to rise to the rank of three-star general. It follows her journey from a young girl in a small Khyber Pakhtunkhwa village, through staggering personal loss and the relentless demands of a military medical career, to the very top of an institution few women had ever led. Along the way it traces the quiet support of her husband and the steel it took to keep climbing each time life tested her resolve. Written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Adnan Sarwar for ARY Digital, with Mahira Khan in the title role opposite Bilal Ashraf, Aik Hai Nigar is an inspirational true story about resilience, sacrifice, and a daughter of the soil who refused to let grief or gender decide how far she could go.
Editor’s Take
This was clearly a passion project, and it shows. Mahira Khan, in her producing debut, plays Nigar Johar with real warmth, and her easy chemistry with Bilal Ashraf gives the film its heart. The story itself, a woman who outlasted unthinkable loss to make history, is genuinely stirring. Our reservation echoes the critics: it lingers on the romance and home life while skimming the very military career that made Nigar a trailblazer. Heartfelt, if incomplete.
